When it comes to NCAA Division I programs in Minnesota, there’s only one. Alaska has zero D-I teams while Hawaii, Maine, Vermont and Wyoming are the only other states with just one completely D-I program.
It’s been quite a winter over at the St. Thomas campus in St. Paul as two basketball teams are gearing up for the NCAA Tournament.
Steve Fritz, the athletic director at the University of St. Thomas, admitted it was time four years ago for the athletic facilities at the small private college in St. Paul to get a facelift.
After 31 years as the University of St. Thomas men’s basketball coach, Fritz announced Thursday on the St. Thomas web site and the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference website that he is resigning.

Once again, the St. Thomas Tommies are unbeaten and sitting atop the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in men’s basketball.
