Twins Minor League Player Suspended For 50 Games

Minnesota Twins second baseman Eddie Rosario has been suspended 50 games for a second positive test for a drug of abuse in violation of baseball’s minor league drug program. Rosario is on the roster of Double-A New Britain and his suspension, announced Saturday, will begin at the start of the Rock Cats’ season. The 21-year-old Rosario was a fourth-round pick in 2010. He batted .302 with 10 homers and 73 RBIs in 122 games split between Class-A and Double-A last year.

Records show minority students and those with special needs are getting harsher punishments than white students. Last year, black students were suspended at a rate more than five times that of white students.

A Minnesota high school athlete who was suspended over a tweet has dropped his push for a court order that would allow him to compete after learning he’ll be allowed to wrestle this season. Tyson Leon, a 16-year-old football player and wrestler at Shakopee High School, had argued that his tweet about “drilling” his teammates was about tackling opponents.

A Minnesota high school athlete is challenging his suspension from sports, saying a tweet about drilling his teammates was about tackling opponents and wasn’t a threat. Tyson Leon, a 16-year-old football player and wrestler at Shakopee High School, says the suspension from sports is hurting his chances of getting a wrestling scholarship to attend college. However, a school district attorney said in court Tuesday that his suspension was only for football and that he will still be able to wrestle, according to the Star Tribune.

Ellison Out For Vikings Vs Browns

The Minnesota Vikings will be without fullback Rhett Ellison when they play the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. Ellison was listed as out for the game because of a knee injury that sidelined him from practice all week. The Vikings are already missing starting fullback Jerome Felton, who is serving the final game of a three-game suspension stemming from a DUI arrest two years ago. Coach Leslie Frazier says the Vikings will lean on rookie Zach Line and veteran tight end John Carlson. Line is a converted running back still learning the position.

Gopher Hockey Player Suspended After DWI

An incoming University of Minnesota freshman hockey player has been indefinitely suspended after a DWI arrest Saturday. Gabe Guertier, 18, was pulled over by University Police early Saturday morning. He was detained at the Hennepin County Jail for several hours after being charged with fourth-degree DWI. Gopher mens hockey coach Don Lucia announced Sunday that Guertier would be suspended indefinitely for violation of team rules. His suspension will be re-evaluated in November.
