What started as a winter vacation getaway turned into a struggle to survive for a Minnesota deputy.

Last month, 39-year-old Jeff Edwards was vacationing with his girlfriend and other friends in Ixtapa, Mexico. While swimming in the ocean, he got caught in a wave and was slammed into the ocean floor.

Nathan Adrian Wins 50 Free At Minneapolis GP

Nathan Adrian won the 50-yard freestyle in under 19 seconds in the Arena Grand Prix on Friday night in Minneapolis. Adrian was a half-second ahead of the rest of the field. Bruno Frautus of Brazil was second in 19.33, and Miguel Ortiz Canavate of Spain took third in 19.42.

Dwyer And Beisel Win At Minneapolis Grand Prix

Olympic medalists Conor Dwyer and Elizabeth Beisel each won an event and finished runner-up in another Thursday on opening night of the Arena Grand Prix in Minneapolis. Dwyer won the 200-yard freestyle and was edged by fellow Olympian Tyler Clary in the 400 individual medley. Beisel won the women’s 400 IM and was second in the 200 freestyle.

Authorities: Man Drowns In St. Croix River

Authorities said a man disappeared under water in the St. Croix River Sunday night. Washington County Sheriff’s dispatch said rescue crews arrived at Point Douglas Beach in Hastings, Minn. around 5 p.m. According to officials, Juan Gabriel Diaz, 40, swam out to the buoy line at the beach.

A 44-year-old Sartell man drowned while swimming in Clearwater Lake Thursday afternoon, according to the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities responded to a call of a man missing in the lake around 1:37 p.m.
