She was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. Now three years later, she’s making big strides. Mary Gooze, 64, swam across Lake Nokomis Tuesday in an effort to find a cure for her condition, metastatic breast cancer, which has spread to her bones.

The Hennepin County Water Patrol says a report of a missing swimmer Saturday morning at a Minneapolis lake was a false alarm. Minneapolis Police received report that a swimmer disappeared at Lake Harriet, but the water patrol confirmed at about 11:20 a.m. that no one was missing.

Big Marine Beach Closed For Swimmer’s Itch Treatment

The swimming beach at Big Marine will be closed for a few days this week as officials treat it for swimmer’s itch. Washington County’s Big Marine Park and Reserve will treat the beach from noon on Wednesday, June 24 to noon on Friday, June 26.

Nathan Adrian won the 50-yard freestyle in under 19 seconds in the Arena Grand Prix on Friday night in Minneapolis. Adrian was a half-second ahead of the rest of the field. Bruno Frautus of Brazil was second in 19.33, and Miguel Ortiz Canavate of Spain took third in 19.42.

Dwyer And Beisel Win At Minneapolis Grand Prix

Olympic medalists Conor Dwyer and Elizabeth Beisel each won an event and finished runner-up in another Thursday on opening night of the Arena Grand Prix in Minneapolis. Dwyer won the 200-yard freestyle and was edged by fellow Olympian Tyler Clary in the 400 individual medley. Beisel won the women’s 400 IM and was second in the 200 freestyle.

Authorities: Man Drowns In St. Croix River

Authorities said a man disappeared under water in the St. Croix River Sunday night. Washington County Sheriff’s dispatch said rescue crews arrived at Point Douglas Beach in Hastings, Minn. around 5 p.m. According to officials, Juan Gabriel Diaz, 40, swam out to the buoy line at the beach.
