Fort Hood Shooting Brings Back Painful Memories For Local Widow

In 2009, 13 people were killed in a shooting at Fort Hood in Texas. Minnesota Pvt. 1st Class Kham Xiong was one of the victims. Shoua Her of North St. Paul was married to Xiong. After finding out about the latest shooting on Wednesday, she spoke with WCCO.

Man Pleads Guilty In $5M Staged Accidents Scam

A Dallas-area man has pleaded guilty to fraud in a $5 million staged traffic accident scheme since 2005. Prosecutors in Dallas say 61-year-old Leroy Nelson of DeSoto pleaded guilty to mail fraud and to engaging in illegal monetary transactions.

Man Pleads Guilty In N.D. Synthetic Drug Deaths

A Texas man accused of distributing chemicals that ultimately resulted in the synthetic drug deaths of two teens in the Grand Forks, N.D., area has pleaded guilty. Charles Carlton pleaded guilty Monday to three counts, including conspiracy to distribute controlled substances resulting in serious bodily injury and death.

Former Bemidji Woman Spins ‘Wheel Of Fortune’

A former Minnesota woman tried her hand at “Wheel of Fortune” Thursday night, with some fortunate results. Katie Hoody used to live in Bemidji, but now lives in Texas. She ended up winning more than $55,000 on the show. Hoody says she wouldn’t be rolling in the dough were it not for her 94-year-old friend, Marion Dessert.

NDSU Beats Towson 35-7 For 3rd Straight FCS Title

Brock Jensen and North Dakota State got their perfect ending, capping a 15-0 season with a 35-7 victory over Towson on Saturday as the Bison claimed their straight FCS championship in coach Craig Bohl’s final game at the school.

Twin Cities Juneteenth Celebration Turns 25

The 25th annual Twin Cities’ Juneteenth celebration brought thousands to North Mississippi Regional Park Saturday. Juneteenth commemorates the day Union Soldiers told slaves in Texas that the Civil War had ended and they were no longer enslaved. Juneteenth is much more than parades, barbeques and family reunions.

Midwest Could See Strong Windstorms From Derecho

The National Weather Service was tracking a so-called derecho weather pattern in the Midwest on Tuesday that could spawn severe windstorms in major metropolitan areas with gusts as strong as 100 mph. Derecho windstorms occur once every year or two across the central and northeastern U.S. in a band from Texas to New England. They pack hazardous winds of at least 75 mph or more and maintain their intensity for hours as they sweep across vast distances.

Twins Take High-School Pitcher In MLB Draft

The Minnesota Twins have selected Texas high-school pitcher Kohl Stewart with the fourth pick in the Major League Baseball draft. Stewart is a 6-foot-3 right-hander and also has a scholarship to play quarterback at Texas A&M.
