Lawmakers in the Minnesota House have passed a bill that could cut the minimum wage for thousands of tipped workers. The bill allows restaurants to pay servers a lower minimum wage if they make $12 an hour or more with tips. The proposal passed 73-to-56 late Wednesday night.

A St. Paul coffee shop has done away with tipping, and opted to pay their employees higher wages. “We decided as a rule, as a group, to just ban tipping outright,” Kopplin’s Café co-owner Andrew Kopplin said.
