Minn. Official To Discuss 2 New Trade Offices

The sites of two new Minnesota trade offices are being formally announced. The Department of Employment and Economic Development planned to reveal the locations on Tuesday. Earlier this month, the agency posted advertisements in the State Register seeking contractors in Brazil and South Korea.

Pirates, Twins Complete Morneau Trade

The Pittsburgh Pirates have completed their trade for Justin Morneau by sending right-handed pitcher Duke Welker to the Minnesota Twins. The final portion of the Aug. 31 trade was announced on Saturday. The Pirates sent outfielder Alex Presley and a player to be named later to the Twins for Morneau to give them some extra pop at the plate and a reliable defensive first baseman. The 27-year-old Welker went 3-4, with a 3.57 ERA and nine saves in 48 appearances for Triple-A Indianapolis this season.

Isles Deal Niederreiter To Wild For Clutterbuck

The New York Islanders fulfilled a need by adding rugged forward Cal Clutterbuck in a trade with the Minnesota Wild and unloaded a bit of a headache in the process. New York and Minnesota worked out a deal Sunday early in the NHL draft that sent Clutterbuck and a third-round pick to the Islanders for fellow forward Nino Niederreiter, the No. 5 overall pick in the 2010 draft.
