Twins, Trevor Plouffe Agree To $2.35M, 1-Year Deal

The Minnesota Twins and third baseman Trevor Plouffe have agreed to a $2.35 million, one-year contract that avoided salary arbitration. Plouffe batted .254 with 14 home runs and 52 RBIs in 477 at-bats last season, his second as a regular in the lineup.

Plouffe Leads Twins Over Angels 6-3

Trevor Plouffe went 2 for 3 and drove in the tying and go-ahead runs as the Minnesota Twins snapped a 10-game home losing streak with a 6-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Monday night. Plouffe’s two-run, two-out double in the fifth inning tied the game 3-3, and his bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the seventh made it 4-3 as the Twins won at home for the first time since Aug. 15, avoiding the longest home losing streak since the franchise started in Washington in 1901. The home skid was the Twins’ longest since moving from Washington in 1961. The Senators lost 10 straight home games in 1957.

Albers Pitches 2-Hitter, Twins Blank Indians 3-0

Andrew Albers threw a two-hitter in his second career start and the Minnesota Twins backed him with a pair of home runs to beat the Cleveland Indians 3-0 Monday night. Albers (2-0) allowed just two singles, walked none and struck out two. Brian Dozier and Trevor Plouffe homered to help the Twins win for the eighth time in 11 games.

Samuel Deduno pitched seven impressive innings and the slumping Minnesota Twins finally figured out a way to beat the New York Yankees, hitting three home runs off Phil Hughes in a 4-1 win Saturday. Trevor Plouffe, Ryan Doumit and Pedro Florimon connected against Hughes — all on 2-2 pitches.

Diamond Struggles Again As Blue Jays Beat Twins

Scott Diamond is running out of answers while trying to solve his pitching problems. Todd Redmond threw one-hit ball over five innings for his first major league win and the Toronto Blue Jays hit three home runs off Diamond Sunday to beat the slumping Twins 11-5. “It’s frustrating the way it all worked out again,” said Diamond, who’s allowed eight homers in his past four starts. “I’m really struggling keeping guys in the park.” Diamond (5-8) allowed six runs and eight hits in 4 2-3 innings and matched a career-high with four walks, losing for the fourth time in six starts.

Gibson Wins Debut As Twins Beat Royals 6-2

Kyle Gibson pitched six solid innings in his major league debut, and Trevor Plouffe homered to help the Minnesota Twins beat the Kansas City Royals 6-2 on Saturday. Gibson (1-0) allowed two runs and eight hits, and he struck out five to become the first first-round pick in Twins history to win a start in his major league debut. He had plenty of early help as Minnesota scored five in the first inning. Wade Davis (4-6) was yanked after giving up another run in the second with no one out. The one inning outing marked Davis’ shortest outing of the season for the Royals, who have lost seven of 10.

Plouffe’s Return Sparks Twins To Win Over Tigers

Trevor Plouffe had three hits, including a two-run homer, in his return to the Twins lineup, and Sam Deduno held Detroit in check over seven innings in Minnesota’s 6-3 victory over the Tigers on Saturday night. Plouffe, back after missing 22 games because of a concussion and left calf strain, was a triple shy of the cycle. He drove in three runs in support of Deduno, who has allowed only five earned runs in his last five starts.

Twins Take Plouffe Off DL; Send Herrmann Down

The Minnesota Twins have reinstated third baseman Trevor Plouffe from the disabled list. The move was made after Friday night’s 4-0 loss to Detroit. Plouffe has missed the last 22 games, first because of a concussion and then due to a strained left calf muscle. He played four games for Triple-A Rochester on a rehabilitation assignment this week, hitting .333 with one home run and three RBIs in 15 at-bats.
