Minnesota’s fishing opener is still a week away, but some lucky veterans are already reeling them in. The group Muskies Inc. helped put on a fishing event at the Minneapolis Veterans Home Saturday afternoon.
After the long, cold, snowy winter it would be hard to blame anyone for avoiding weekend chores and picking up a fishing pole, and that’s what thousands of eager Minnesota anglers did on Saturday. The annual trout fishing season got underway Saturday under cloudy, yet mild conditions.
It’s about a month before the fishing opener in Minnesota. But if you’re interested in stream trout fishing, that season opens Saturday. On Friday, the DNR added 1,000 rainbow trout to a river not too far from the Twin Cities. With Minnesota’s stream trout opener coming up on Saturday, fisheries officials say new opportunities have opened up in the Twin Cities metro area. Land acquisitions by the Department of Natural Resources in Dakota County will give anglers nearly two additional miles of shoreline to explore along the Vermillion River.
