Wednesday is National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Here in the Twin Cities, the Minnesota History Center hosted a celebration and awards program. Gov. Mark Dayton stopped by to congratulate the honorees. But the findings of a new report show a major setback for female coaches at colleges and universities.
The Movement Minneapolis, a hardcore gym known for intense workouts, is a noisy place at lunchtime. But owner David Dellanave says after the workouts, not much is spoken about lunch. “If you’re not hungry, why are you eating?” Dellanave said. Members like Lacy Morgan and Martin Rittenbery skip eating once or twice a week. “I’ve heard them preaching about it, so I decided to give it a go,” Morgan said.
They’ve been called arguably the best women’s college hockey team ever. This past weekend, the undefeated Gopher women’s hockey team won their 49 consecutive game as well the national championship – but it wasn’t shown on television.
