Matthew Gilbert is September’s Veteran of the Month!
Louis Goldstein joined the Army Reserves in November of 2002 at the age of 17 while still a junior in High School. He attended St. Cloud State University from September 2005 – December 2009, and graduated with a double major in Political Science and Communication Studies.
John Dauffenbach entered the US Army in 1960 at the age of 17. He served in Germany from 1960 – 1963 as a Nuclear War head specialist, and a rocket assembly specialist.
Trista Matascastillo began her 16-year military career in 1992 where she served as an Avionic Technician in the United States Navy and was the first woman to serve in her command.
Staff Sergeant Andrea Drost grew up in Luverne, Minn. and graduated from Luverne High School in 2004.
Brock Hunter is an attorney and former Army scout who focuses his practice on defending psychologically injured veterans in the criminal courts and advocating for reforms in the way the justice system deals with them.
Myrl Mahaney was asked by the government to join the Army in July of 1951 at the age of 19, and was assigned to be a classified correspondence clerk.
Capt. Nikki Jansen grew up in Plymouth, Minn. and attended Wayzata High School. She was nominated to the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. by Sen. Jim Ramstad, and was accepted to attend in June 2002.
Amanda Kotval enlisted into the Wis. Army National Guard on Feb. 13, 2006. She was appointed as additional Cadre for the RSP in Chippewa Falls, Wis. upon her return from Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training until January 2008.
Gene Altstatt grew up in Mahtomedi and went to St. Thomas academy, which gave him interest in the military.
Gary Wolf was born at West Point and raised in Minneapolis. He was a Navy officer during law school, and after passing the bar he went on an extended active duty for five years.
Virgil Bradley was born at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, and as his father was in the Air Force, he grew up on military bases all over the country.
July’s featured veteran is Charlie Roberts, who was a Corporal in the Marine Corps, serving with 3rd Recon Battalion in Okinawa, Japan where he conducted special operations throughout Asia.
Jeremy was born April 4, 1978 in Minnesota. Majority of his childhood was spent living in different locations and attending multiple schools around the Twin Cities.
George Boyd was born in Chicago and raised in Danville, Illinois. At the age of 17 he enlisted into the Air Force in 1958 and was first assigned to Westover Air Force Base, Massachusetts.
