Winona Cop Gets Probation For DWI

A man who pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated while serving as a Winona police officer will get one year of supervised probation and must pay a $1,000 fine. Earlier this month, Walski pleaded guilty to one count of misdemeanor DWI and he was granted a stay of imposition.

Winona Diocese Releases Priest Abuse Details

The Diocese of Winona released details Monday about 14 priests who have been credibly accused of sexually abusing children, calling their decision an effort to be transparent and promote healing. The information shows when church officials first learned of allegations against each priest. And, it shows that some clergy were allowed to remain in ministry for years, even decades, after those allegations came to light.

Winona, Minn. had a superhero sighting on Thursday. Four-year-old Gavin Quimby suffers from leukodystrophy, a non-curable disease that affects his motor skills. But when Winona needed his help, Super Gavin was there to rescue them.

Fmr. Minn. Priest Admits To Decades Of Sexual Abuse

A videotaped deposition of a former Minnesota priest shows him calmly describing graphic sexual encounters with at least ten boys. The deposition of former priest Thomas Adamson is the latest in a series released as the result of a lawsuit against him by a man who says he was abused as a boy in the mid-70s.

MN Officials Warn Of High Water Levels Across State Lakes, Rivers

After another round of rain this weekend, officials are reminding Minnesotans of the dangers on lakes and rivers when waters are high. When Robert Duncanson fell out of his canoe, he held onto a tree branch along the river. But the current was too much, and the branch snapped before help arrived.

Body Of Missing Fisherman Found In Winona

Search crews have found the body of a missing 88-year-old Stockton man who fell out of a canoe while fishing Friday morning. Winona County Sheriff Dave Brand says crews were dragging the river near Winona, when one of the drags caught the body of Robert Lester Duncanson on Saturday afternoon.

Investigators have identified the body that was found in a compartment of a rented RV on Friday in Winona, Minn. as an Anoka man who’s been missing since last November. According to the Anoka County Sheriff’s office, 22-year-old Kevin Casserly was found by 10 friends who had rented an RV from a man in Anoka.

Police are investigating after a group who had rented an RV from a private party in Anoka County found a dead body inside a storage compartment in Winona. The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office received the report at about 11:15 p.m. Thursday from the Winona Police Department.

Sheriff: No Charges In Winona Crash That Killed 4

Authorities said Monday that criminal charges won’t be filed in a Jan. 5 crash in Winona that killed four people, including the driver. The Winona County Sheriff’s Office said the driver, Christina Hauser, had a blood alcohol level of .168 at the time of the crash and was speeding. The sheriff’s office said that because Hauser died, she couldn’t face criminal charges in the case.

Group: Install Air Monitors To Study Frack Sand

A Winona environmental group is recommending that air monitors be installed around the city to measure the effect that the processing and shipping of sand used in fracking has on air quality. The Winona Citizen’s Environmental Quality Committee recommends installing four or five air-quality monitors along truck routes in the city, the Winona Daily News reported Saturday. The committee also suggests placing monitors near places where frack sand is loaded, transported and processed.

A Minnesota eighth-grader who sank two length-of-the-court basketball shots attracted the attention of a Harlem Globetrotter known for his own theatrics. The La Crosse Tribune says 14-year-old Easton Gamoke of Winona, Minn., sank a game-winning shot from near his own baseline during a youth basketball game in January.
