Best Places For Adult Music Classes In Minnesota

Now is the time to fulfill those neglected interests in music. The cost is minimal and the time spent is gratifying. "We are so fortunate to have a multitude of excellent music instructors in Minnesota," according to The Schubert Club's Artistic and Executive Director, Barry Kempton, "due largely to the Minnesota Music Teachers Association helping ensure instructor standards." Here are five outstanding organizations in Minnesota where adults can immerse themselves in learning voice, instrument, composing, writing and many other aspects of music.

MacPhail delivers music instruction at four metropolitan locations in Minneapolis, Apple Valley, Chanhassen and White Bear Lake. Most music instruction programs are offered live online as well. Voice students can develop their talents, focusing on classical music, theater music, jazz or pop. Persons seeking to master an instrument will find instructors specializing in all genres of piano and most types of brass, woodwind and percussion instruments. The center teaches violin in classical, eclectic and folk styles. Guitar enthusiasts can learn electric, acoustic, classical and electric bass. The center also offers courses to adults in composition, theory and songwriting.

Ever on the cutting edge, the school opened the nation's first accredited Hip Hop diploma in 2009. Not only do the programs help develop budding performers, composers or songwriters, but so do they train people for careers in audio engineering, managing, promoting and producing music.

A large staff of accomplished performers and instructors offer individual lessons on most traditional classical instruments such as piano, harpsichord, harp, violin, cello, viola, clarinet, oboe and percussion. The Conservatory also offers adults the opportunity to enjoy music while developing their skills by playing in groups. Adults of various levels of accomplishment can register to play chamber music in groups of diverse instruments or in single instrument groups such as viola da gamba, clarinet and flute.
