Best Upcoming Art Competitions In Minnesota

Minnesota is home to creative people and talented artists. Fine arts festivals are in abundance throughout the summer and film festivals bring international crowds to tiny venues. Along with exhibitions and shows, competitions provide the means for new talent to be discovered and young artists to receive some promotion. Some top Minnesota competitions being held this fall are listed below. Check them out!

What can be more artistically delicious than cake? The Upper Midwest Bakery Association is hosting its sixth annual cake decorating contest this fall at the Mall of America in Bloomington. Categories include Birthday Cake Decorating and Wedding Cake Competition.
The competition is only open to members of the Upper Midwest Bakery Association or employees of bakeries that are recognized by the Association. Come out to the mall during the competition to see some of the delicious creativity on display.

Flow Art Space is a Minneapolis gallery that shows local and national artists' works throughout the year in juried art shows. Shows are interspersed throughout the year and typically run for weeks at a time. All artists make 100 percent commission on sales, and both receptions and promotions are provided for upcoming talent. Flow Art Space encourages all forms of media including photography, drawing, painting, sculpture and many other techniques and designs. Entrants must by 18 years of age and live in the United States.

Twin Cities Film Festival

TCFF is a nonprofit organization formed with the purpose of bringing film audiences and filmmakers together. Each year, the TCFF features and promotes independent filmmakers throughout the state and country. All filmmakers are encouraged to submit a film for consideration into the festival and the selections are made by a panel of judges. The Twin Cities Film Festival is attended by international and professional filmmakers and provides a major venue for displays of new filmmaking talent.

Capture Minnesota Photography Contest

Capture Minnesota is a website and network dedicated to exhibiting photography from the beautiful state of Minnesota. Photographs are uploaded and displayed for visitors to vote on the top photographs in each category. All amateur and professional photographers are invited to upload photos and the top-rated photographs are published in an annual book. Photographs can be viewed and voted on by any registered visitor to the site. Categories are unlimited and include such topics as flowers, food, celebrations, cityscapes and children. Some have seasonal deadlines, so check the website for details on submissions.

Dates: Preliminary competition on Oct. 19

This opportunity is open to young performers in Minnesota and other Midwest states, as well as parts of Canada. The Minnesota Orchestra Volunteer Association sponsors this activity to help discover and encourage young musical talent. Young performers have a chance to win scholarships and opportunities to perform with the Minnesota Orchestra. Entrants must be under the age of 25 on Jan. 12, 2013, the date of the final competition.
