Learn more about the Hmong, a people who chose the Twin Cities metro area as one of few US urban areas to settle after being uprooted from their communities in Southeast Asia. The powerful story of this transition, told in their voice, has exhibits of Honoring, Remembering, and Understanding. The first gallery, Honoring, is a timeline of Hmong early history up to the great Southeast Asian war plus textiles, basketry, jewelry, weapons and religious artifacts representing Hmong traditional life in Laos. The second display, Remembering, shows people, events and feelings on thousands of brightly colored spirit papers similar to those burned as offerings at Hmong funerals. The third space is dedicated to Understanding by telling of the Hmong journey from Thailand's refugee camps to the first years in Minnesota and current Hmong clan system, language, religion, culture, women, politics, and of the farmers' market.

Hmong women settling in St. Paul created these 50 warm, vibrant and rigorously detailed pieces of Hmong textile art. Paj Ntaub, or flower cloth, are traditional art forms of embroidery, appliqué and batik. Corrine Pearson collected many of these pieces while for two decades operating a Hmong Handwork consignment store in St. Paul.

View the 40 best fashions from five decades of the world-renowned traveling fashion show Ebony Fashion Fair. See Christian Dior, Oscar de la Renta, Bill Blass, Valentino, Patrick Kelly, Bob Mackie, and Stephen Burrows garments. Johnson Publishing Company and Ebony Magazine created this landmark show that continued for 50 years. Celebrate the opening with Preview Party & Fashion Show Emcee Robyne Robinson Thursday May 21, 2015 at 8:00 p.m. for $25. Not only do participants get an advance look at these iconic fashions, but they can shop, take photos and enjoy hors' de oeuvres.

It was 1958 when the Hagström family started making electric guitars in Sweden. Skilled craft workers applied the same sparkle pearloid celluloid used on their accordions to this new line of guitars, causing famous stars from Elvis Presley to Frank Zappa to seek Hagström guitars. When Hagströmdiscontinued its product line in 1983, collectors scrambled to acquire these vintage guitars, some of which will be displayed as some will available to play. Local artists will be playing these guitars in a series of concerts this summer and Minneapolis jazz musician Connie Evingson, Artist-In-Residence, will be composing an original new work for the prized possessions.
