DeBlog: Why Don't We Show An ID To Vote?

By Jason DeRusha, WCCO-TV

This is the number one question you've been sending since Election Day. Why don't we have to show an ID in Minnesota to vote?

Under current law, all you have to do is show up, state your name and address, and sign in. That's it.

Republican Tom Emmer proposed requiring photo ID to vote several times as a legislator and, according to Smart Politics, Minnesotans are overwhelmingly in favor of it.

So why don't we have it? We need ID to do so many other things, why not vote?

The flip side: Is there really enough voter fraud to make changing the rules necessary? According to Minnesota Independent, requiring photo ID would put Minnesota with Georgia, Florida and Indiana -- the only other states that require photo ID to cast a regular ballot.

What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comments, I may use them on the air tonight.
