MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minneapolis Public Schools celebrate Native American Family Involvement Day Thursday. Schools across the district are holding special events for students and families and it's open to all parents and guardians.
"Our parents really need to be partners with the teachers because parents are the first teachers," said Danielle Grant who heads Indian education for Minneapolis Public Schools.
"It's the parents who know the child best," she added.
Grant says involvement does not mean parents have to volunteer at schools, but it does mean helping with homework and asking children about what they are learning.
