Pitcher Punched In ND Struggling To Recover
FARGO, N.D. (AP) -- Authorities say a pitcher who spent time in the Boston Red Sox minor league system is struggling to recover after being punched outside a North Dakota bar.
The Forum newspaper reports that Cody McAllister was in Fargo with the Kansas City T-Bones last fall, playing against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in the independent Northern League finals. Prosecutor Mark Boening says McAllister was punched, hit his head on a rock and was knocked unconscious for at least 10 minutes in the bar parking lot about 2 a.m. on Sept. 18.
Boening says the pitcher has a history of concussions and has had problems with short-term memory and personality changes since the altercation.
Travis Burnside of Moorhead, Minn., was sentenced on Monday to a week in jail for throwing the punch.
