Mobile Technology Helps Find Holiday Deals

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Shoppers have more mobile technology than ever to use this holiday shopping season.

There are a variety of apps and marketing practices being used by some of the most popular retailers.

"Mobile technology is going to make it easier for shoppers to save money and time," said Rich Butwinick, President of MarketingLab in Minneapolis.

TGI Black Friday was an app used to find savings the day after Thanksgiving.

"You can search by stores. You can search by products. You can search by hot deals," said Butwinick.

Retailers are also incorporating more QR codes into their ads. One example from Target features additional information about a product listed in its holiday catalog, including a video that shows the item being used.

JCPenney is giving out QR codes to customers so they can include a customized audio message with their gift.

Old Navy has a new app that encourages users to find the retailers logo for potential savings. People can take a picture of the Old Navy logo with Snap Appy and they're given a random fashion tip or coupon.

MarketingLab's clients include Best Buy, Procter & Gamble, and Coca-Cola.
