MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — As many as 2,000 police officers from around the country are expected to attend the funeral for Shawn Schneider, the Lake City police officer who was shot in the head last month.

His funeral is Saturday.

Authorities released the procession route Wednesday. They asked that members of the public pay their respects along the designated route. (See attached photo.)

During the procession, a bell will ring 261 times.

That’s once for every officer who has given his or her life in the line of duty in Minnesota.

Visitation for Officer Schneider will be held Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Lake City.

The funeral is Saturday at 1 p.m.

He will be buried at Lakewood Cemetery following the funeral service. Tune into WCCO on Saturday for coverage of the funeral at 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Being a member of a public safety dept. we go because we honor their life and sacrifice they made. We don’t go because of the opportunity to get OT. In fact most of us go on our day off or right after a shift.
