Kentucky Derby Hopeful Proudly Represents Macalester

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Macalester College will have a presence at the Kentucky Derby on Saturday.

Dullahan, one of the 20 horses competing in the 138th running of the Kentucky Derby, is co-owned by Jerry Crawford, 1971 graduate and proud alum of Macalester College.

Crawford has invited Macalester president Brian Rosenberg to walk the horse from the barn to the saddling area.

And President Rosenberg says Dullahan's blanket will feature the school's colors with Macalester written across the side in orange.

"I don't know that it's ever been done before. But at Macalester we like to think outside the box a little bit," said Rosenberg. "And when Jerry suggested this my response was, 'Sounds like fun. Life is short, why not?'"

As for Dullahan's chances? He's listed as 8 to 1 going into horse racing's biggest event.
