12-Year-Old Girl Struck By SUV In Carver County

CARVER COUNTY (WCCO) -- A 12-year-old girl was struck by a SUV while walking her bike in Carver County Wednesday afternoon, according to authorities.

A Carver County Sheriff's deputy said that the girl, who was from the area, was walking her bike across Highway 101 at Lotus View Drive at around 4:30 p.m. when she was hit by a black Saturn SUV.

Sheriff Jim Olson said the girl was wearing a helmet and that an 18-year-old man aided her after the collision. The injured girl's named will not be released Wednesday, authorities said.

One driver, who saw the 18-year-old man perform CPR on the girl, said she stopped when she saw them.

"You never think you are going to come up on something like that," she said.

The man who was helping the girl said that when he found her, she still had a pulse, but was not breathing.

The girl was transported to the Hennepin County Medical Center.

The SUV sustained minor damage to its front end.

Neighbors say Highway 101 has been a concern for a while, because people often drive faster than the speed limit, which is 45 mph.

"No body ever goes the speed limit," said Yvonne Smith, a neighbor.

Smith, who has a 12-year-old daughter, said her stomach sank when she heard about the crash.

Authorities are now reconstructing the scene on Highway 101, which is the border of Chanhassen and Eden Prairie.

No arrests have been made.
