Authorities: Man Shot After Pointing Shotgun At Officer

LYLE, Minn. (WCCO) -- The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Mower County Wednesday.

According to authorities, law enforcement responded to a domestic disturbance call at around 2:40 p.m. regarding a man with a shotgun at the 50200 block of 130th Street in Lyle Township.

When officers arrived, the homeowner, identified as 42-year-old Brian Jerome Jansen, fled with a shotgun to a nearby cornfield. While police searched for Jansen, they located his wife inside the home unharmed.

After two hours of searching on ground and with a State Patrol Helicopter, Jansen retuned to the house still carrying the shotgun. After repeatedly ignored orders to put down the weapon, Jansen was Tasered, but it only initially subdued him. He then pointed his shotgun at Deputy Jason Bresser, who then fired his gun, grazing Jansen's arm. Officers then subdued Jansen and arrested him, authorities said.

Jansen was treated at a Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin and then booked into the Mower County Jail.

Deputy Bresser is a six-year veteran of the Mower County Sheriff's Office. He's been placed on standard administrative leave.

Charges are expected to be filed Friday.
