Man Who Died In MOA Parking Ramp Accident ID'd
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Authorities have identified the man who died Friday when a concrete slab fell on a U-Haul truck in a Mall of America parking ramp.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office said 52-year-old Raheem Aaron Waheed died in the incident.
Authorities, however, did not disclose Waheed's manner of death, as results of some tests are still pending.
Waheed died Friday night after the U-Haul truck he was driving hit an overhang, causing part of the parking ramp to fall and crush the truck's cab. Waheed was trapped in the truck and died at the scene.
Witnesses of the incident tried to help free Waheed from the truck. Some tried to comfort Waheed in his final moments.
Waheed's wife and daughter -- who were also in the vehicle -- suffered injuries.
Authorities closed down the parking ramp, which is located near the Nordstroms department store.
Crews are working to reinforce a small portion overhead where the concrete broke off, but the mall says the ramp is safe for drivers.
