Nearly 1,500 Served In Free Dental Clinic

MANKATO, Minn. (WCCO) -- After day two of Mission of Mercy's free dental care for the needy outreach event at the Verizon Wireless Center in Mankato, Minn., nearly 1,500 people received free care.

Dr. Michael Zakula, president of the Minnesota Dental Association and participant in the clinic, said the first day was a success.

"We saw over 800 patients and provided over $700,000 worth of dental care," Zakula said. "There were 1,225 volunteer dental care workers, providing much need service to people who thus far have not been able to find, or afford, dental care in the area."

The success of clinics should not be taken for granted, Zakula said.

"We can't afford to do this all the time," he said.

The Minnesota Dental Association Mission of Mercy wrapped up Saturday afternoon with nearly 1,500 people receiving free care.

In all, the free care delivered exceeded $1.3 million dollars
