Chase Suspect Falls Through River Ice, Is Rescued

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A man who fled a traffic stop in Fargo-Moorhead had to be rescued after he ran onto the partially frozen Red River and fell through the ice.

The chase early Friday began on the Minnesota side of the river and crossed to the North Dakota side, where the man crashed his car into a business and fled on foot.

Police say the 26-year-old Colorado man broke through the ice after venturing onto the river but was able to keep from slipping under because the water was only waist-deep. Officers used a rope to rescue him. They arrested him on several charges including a drug count and took him to a hospital to be treated for exposure to the icy water.
