Arboretum Says It's Time To Think About Gardening

CHANHASSEN, Minn. (AP) -- Minnesota is still firmly in the grip of winter, but the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum says it's time to think about gardening.

As the days grow longer and the seed catalogs start arriving in the mail, thoughts of many Minnesotans turn to things green and growing.  To whet the gardener's appetite, the Arboretum is announcing a lineup of Saturday classes, offering everything from northern-hardy grapes to tremendous tomatoes.

The classes kick off March 2 with a session on growing cold-climate grapes for eating and winemaking. Later classes will cover the top herbs for Minnesota gardens, creating Japanese gardens, the best choices for vegetable gardens and ensuring an ample tomato harvest.

The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum is part of the University of Minnesota and is located in Chanhassen.
