Crash Kills Boy, 6, In Southern Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities say a 6-year-old boy is dead after a crash in far southern Minnesota Sunday morning, and alcohol was detected on the driver at the scene.

The Minnesota State Patrol responded to a one-vehicle crash at about 8:06 a.m. Sunday on Highway 4 in Martin County. Authorities say a 1994 Jeep four-door wagon ran off the road and rolled. A 6-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene. A 4-year-old was also seriously hurt, as was the driver of the vehicle, a 26-year-old woman.

Authorities say alcohol was detected on the driver at the scene, but it's not clear what her blood alcohol level was at the time of the crash. A 9-year-old also suffered minor injuries.

The State Patrol identified the victim as Amonte King. The crash is still under investigation by the Minnesota State Patrol and the Martin County Sheriff's Office.
