Star Of Backup Singer Doc To Perform In Mpls.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A longtime backup singer to some famous rock acts is scheduled to perform Friday night in Minneapolis.

Merry Clayton, star of the documentary "Twenty Feet From Stardom," will perform at a screening of the movie at the Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival.

Clayton sang backup on Carole King's "Tapestry" album, on Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama" and Joe Cocker's "Feelin' Alright." But she's probably best known for her hair-raising vocals on the Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter."

The movie will be screened at 7 p.m. at the St. Anthony Main Theatre.
