Minnesota's Pitino Hires Seton Hall Assistant

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — New Minnesota coach Richard Pitino has hired Dan McHale from Seton Hall to complete his staff.

The addition of McHale was finalized by the university on Friday. McHale was an assistant at Seton Hall for three years. He previously spent four seasons at Louisville working under Pitino's father, Rick Pitino.

McHale joins Kimani Young and Ben Johnson as assistant coaches for the Gophers.

Steve Goodson, a holdover from previous coach Tubby Smith's staff, will be the director of basketball operations under Pitino. Shaun Brown will be the strength and conditioning coach, and Josh Adel will be the video coordinator. Mike Balado was initially hired to be the director of basketball operations, but he decided not to come.

Adel and Young were with Pitino at Florida International last season.
