ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) — Reading the names of more than 500 graduates is no easy task, especially when they come from 46 countries.

But that’s the job of Macalester College registrar Jayne Niemi during Saturday’s commencement.

“I do sort of test drives of the cards that students have given me,” she said. “And if I have doubts, I will call them and ask them.”

So far, she’s only had trouble with one young man’s name, who’s from Africa. His name had a “click” sound in it, which she stumbled over upon reading.
