AAA To Expand Roadside Service To Bicycles

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- When you run out of gas or get a flat tire, many drivers turn to American Automobile Association -- or AAA -- for help. Now the motor club is expanding their services to bicyclists.

Starting on July 1, AAA will offer roadside assistance to people on two wheels.

Bike assistance will only be available within Hennepin County for now.

"AAA Minneapolis is committed to improving the quality of life for everyone we serve," said Matt Hehl, communications manager for AAA in Minneapolis. "Transportation is a major factor in quality of life and our members want options that are multi-modal. This new bike service is part of that commitment."

The service would apply to all bicycles, including those that were rented. The service would be available at no additional charge to members.

AAA said it's looking to expand the service to include other popular areas that extend outside of the county, like parts of the Midtown Greenway or the Cedar Lake or Luce Line trails in the western suburbs.
