When Was The Last Extremely Powerful Tornado In MN?

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- It's been more than 20 years since the last extremely powerful tornado hit Minnesota.

It was in 1992 in the community of Chandler.

The weather service estimated winds of 260 miles per hour. They rated it "F5."

That was before the Enhanced Fujita Scale.

One person died, 35 were hurt and it caused $50 million in damage.

Over the past 30 years, Minnesota has averaged 37 tornadoes a year.

Wednesday marks two years since a tornado hit the north side of Minneapolis.

It killed two people, damaged 3,700 properties and caused nearly $29 million worth of damage.
