Dakota Co. Man Charged With Drunk-Driving Death Of Friend

HASTINGS, Minn. (WCCO) – A Hampton Township man was charged Friday with three counts of criminal vehicular homicide in connection with a car crash last November.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, 27-year-old Keri James Gesme was driving his pickup truck on Hwy 50 at speeds between 83 and 106 miles per hour on Nov. 8, 2012.

His truck went airborne and struck a tree. Both Gesme and his passenger, 27-year-old Dennis Paul Underwood of Cannon Falls, were ejected on impact.

Underwood was killed as a result of his impact with the tree.

Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom says Gesme had a blood-alcohol level of .20.

"This appears to be another tragic example of the dangers of drinking and driving," Backstrom said. "Our deepest sympathy is extended to the friends and family of Dennis Underwood for their great loss."

Gesme is currently not in custody, but a warrant has been issued for his arrest.
