FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. (WCCO) – When you think State Fair, you probably think farm animals. But if you find your way up to the Pet Center, dogs are the stars of the show.

“It’s hard to get here, but a lot of people make this a priority event when they come to the fair,” said Anne, a dog trainer.

Each day a different group of dogs is out, showing their stuff. On Wednesday, it was golden retrievers. The dogs showed the crowd why they are considered one of the smartest breeds.

“The crowd is very impressed,” Anne said. “They’re amazing when [the dogs] go through the weave poles, and they appreciate how hard we’ve trained these dogs.”

And even though shows are put on almost every hour, the stands are always full.

“I think that’s because dog is man’s best friend, there’s just something about canines that draws everybody in,” Anne said.

The Pet Center is on the northern edge of the fairgrounds if you want to check out a show.

There’s one more Best Of fair segment left, and it’s a tough one: best dessert.
