State Patrol Asking For Help Locating Fatal Hit-&-Run Driver

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota State Patrol is asking for the public's help in locating a vehicle – and driver – in a fatal hit-and-run crash just north of Sauk Centre on Aug. 24.

The State Patrol said a motorcycle passenger was hit and killed after falling off the motorcycle, then being hit by a car at about 9:46 p.m. The incident happened on Highway 71 just north of Sauk Centre. When authorities got to the scene, they learned a person riding a motorcycle heading northbound on Highway 71 had fallen off near the entrance to Grey Stone Golf Course.

The passenger, a man, was then hit by another motorist headed northbound on Highway 71. Authorities said the driver of the car who hit the man did not stop at the scene, and now the State Patrol is looking for the vehicle involved.

Authorities said the vehicle is believed to have sustained damage to the front bumper and debris at the scene suggests it was a Buick Regal which hit the man.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the St. Cloud office off the State Patrol at 320-223-6666. The Stearns County Sheriff's Office and Todd County Sheriff's Office are providing assistance with the investigation.

The name of the victim has not yet been released.
