Driver Ejected, Killed After Swerving To Miss Deer In Chisago Co.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A driver is dead after swerving to miss a deer on a Chisago County road Wednesday morning, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

At 5:22 a.m., the State Patrol says a 1998 Ford Ranger was traveling southbound on Interstate 35W at Milepost 151 when the driver swerved to miss a deer in the lane. The car then slid sideways into the median, rolling several times.

The driver, who was wearing all dark clothing, was ejected onto the northbound left lane and was struck by another vehicle.

The driver of the second car, a 2007 Chevrolet Impala, has been identified as 48-year-old Richard Giese of Pine City. He was not injured.

The deceased victim has not been identified.
