Minn.'s Dayton 'Embarrassed' By Own Charity Giving

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton is professing embarrassment over his relatively low level of charitable giving last year and says he'll remedy it this year.

Dayton acknowledged personal disappointment Wednesday that his 2012 tax return released a day earlier showed $1,000 in charitable donations. That was on total salary and investment earnings of $343,000. He has given many times that amount to charity in the past.

He told reporters that he takes pride charitable giving and didn't realize that he had fallen off so much. He says next year's tally will be better.

Minnesota candidates and officials aren't required to release their tax returns, but Dayton has done so voluntarily.
