GOP Governor Candidate Demands MNsure Chief Resign

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A Republican candidate for governor says the executive director of Minnesota's health insurance exchange should resign.

Businessman Scott Honour is among a handful of Republicans seeking to challenge Gov. Mark Dayton next year. He issued a news release Monday saying April Todd-Malmlov, the executive director of MNsure, should step down after facing criticism for a recent vacation despite ongoing problems with the insurance enrollment process.

A MNsure spokeswoman said Todd-Malmlov had no comment on Honour's statement.

Democrat Dayton has defended Todd-Malmlov's vacation in late November. But the Democratic governor also calls MNsure's problems with data and helpline wait-times unacceptable, and says they must be resolved soon.

Dayton does not have direct authority to remove MNsure executives. MNsure's board of directors meets on Wednesday.
