MN Shooting Guard Hopes To Make An Impression At Timberwolves Training

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Timberwolves rookies and prospects are in Las Vegas and one shooting guard who calls Minnesota home is getting his shot to show the team just what he has to offer.

Matt Janning is back where he wants to be, taking a shot at the NBA with his hometown team – the Minnesota Timberwolves.

"I've been kind of around the world and back. It's great to be home. Timberwolves giving me a good opportunity here to play in the summer league, get out here and compete and hopefully try to make it back to the NBA," Janning said.

His calling card has become his ability to score.

He first came on the scene at Northeastern University in college.

"He can really shoot it. He's played well in the past. He played well down in Phoenix, had a great year over in Italy last year. Got started, really, a day too late, but I'm interested to see how he plays out there just because of his ability to put the ball in the basket," Head coach Flip Saunders said.

He is from just down west of the Target Center in Minneapolis.

He attended Watertown Mayer High School.

Which helps him build a following while trying to impress the Timberwolves.

"There's a lot of people in town yesterday for the scrimmage. They come check it out. My family. First time that a lot of people have been able to see me live for a few years now," Janning said.

He's been in Italy and a has a deal to go back overseas where he can make a nice living.

But the real goal is to play your back to the big leagues that is the NBA.

"You go overseas. You work hard, you put your time in. But I think for everybody over there, the goal is to get back to the NBA," Janning said. "That is what you dream about as a kid."
