Smooth Sailing So Far For Minnesota State Fair

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- It appears all is running well on this first Saturday of the 2014 Minnesota State Fair.

Spokesperson Brianna Schutte told WCCO's Steve Thompson that she's pleased, especially with the new transit hub location. Schutte says it's making it even easier for fairgoers to get into, and out of the fair.

"It's a dream," Schutte said. "It's a totally different story down there."

She says the whole west end of the fairgrounds is new this year.

"We razed Heritage Square after last-year's fairand began a project with about 17-and-a-half-million-dollar price tag to build the new transit hub up there, and bring in this new West End Market," she said.

Other than the new transit hub, Schutte says fair-goers will notice changes at the Horse Coliseum as well.

"It's now more of a world-class horse show, that people come from around the country to compete in the show," she said.

Schutte says you will see more breeds, more classes and more competitions this year.

As far as the heat expected on Sunday, Schutte says they have medical stations set up at the fair, staffed by doctors and nurses from Regions Hospital.

She says you can bring in coolers with water to stay hydrated, and the medical stations are air conditioned, so there's space available if you need to cool off.
