Minnesota Drivers Need To Start Watching For Deer

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Minnesota's deer hunting season is just around the corner, which means it's also time to start keeping a closer eye on the sides of the road.

A new survey from State Farm Insurance estimates that about one in every 88 drivers in Minnesota will hit a deer this year. In all, the insurance company expects more than 37,000 thousand deer accidents this year.

Among the 50 states, Minnesota has the eighth highest odds for a motorist to hit a deer. And for our neighbors to the east, they stand a slightly better chance of that happening. In Wisconsin, one in every 85 drivers will hit a deer.

Motorists are reminded to drive with caution throughout the deer hunting season, especially near wooded areas. The archery deer hunting season in Minnesota is already underway and goes until New Year's Eve, while the rifle season begins Nov. 8
