Eau Claire Man Arrested After Fall From Bridge Near Campus

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (AP) — Police say a 21-year-old Eau Claire man was arrested for disorderly conduct after falling more than 30 feet while attempting some sort of stunt on a bridge over the Chippewa River.

UW-Eau Claire police say an officer saw the man hanging by his hands from the bridge near campus early Friday. When asked if he needed help, police say, the man fell to the shore below and tried to run away.

The officer found the man in some bushes about 10 minutes later. Police say he smelled of alcohol. He was handcuffed and taken to a hospital to be checked out, but police say he had no visible injuries.

UW-Police Chief David Sprick says the 21-year-old is not a student at the university.

He's due in court next month.
