GOP Says MNsure Rate Increase Deceptive

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Republicans say a 4.5 percent average rate increase for people buying insurance through the state health exchange is deceptive.

State officials announced the increase on Wednesday, and said Minnesota will still have the lowest rates in the nation next year.

But Senate Minority Leader David Hann says the figure is misleading. He says most Minnesotans chose the lowest-cost plan they could get, and rates in those plans are going up much more.

Gov. Mark Dayton says he's pleased with the overall figure. He says at worst most people will get a modest increase, and many people will see a significant reduction.

His GOP opponent, Jeff Johnson, issued a statement saying Dayton has failed to deliver on a promise to cut the cost of health insurance for middle-class Minnesotans.
