Mpls. Man Quickly Gets Life Without Parole For Stabbing Death

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 26-year-old Minneapolis man was sentenced to life in prison without parole just six weeks after stabbing a man to death in September.

Quanan Lee Machacek pleaded guilty Tuesday to first-degree murder in the death of 25-year-old Cody Rasche, according to the Hennepin County Attorney's Office.

Machacek confessed that he was looking for someone to kill on the night of Sept. 10. Court documents say he spotted Rasche walking with his girlfriend near the Little Earth Community housing complex in south Minneapolis.

He challenged Rasche to a fight, and soon an argument turned violent. Machacek pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim several times in the neck.

Machacek's case moved so fast in the justice system because he was willing to plead guilty to first-degree murder instead of trying to make a deal for a lesser charge, which may have provided hope of being released in the future.
