Fire Danger Expected To Increase In Minnesota

GRAND RAPIDS, Minn. (AP) — Dry conditions are expected to increase the danger of wildfires in Minnesota this weekend.

Officials say even though much of Minnesota got some rain over the past week, it amounted to less than a quarter inch in many areas.

Several counties in Minnesota have received below-normal rainfall for August, September and October. The dry conditions — combined with high winds, low relative humidity and dead, dry vegetation following the hard frost — will increase the fire danger Saturday and Sunday.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources will restrict burning in several counties over the weekend.

Campfires will still be allowed. But officials are urging people to be careful with campfires.
