Garth Brooks Sings To Fan With Cancer

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - Garth Brooks is playing another two sold-out shows at Target Center Saturday night.

But, it's a moment from Friday night's late show that has a lot of his fans still talking.

Teresa Shaw caught Brooks' attention with a hand-made sign: "Chemo This Morning, Garth Tonight, Enjoying The Dance."

What happened next brought the crowd to tears and gave Teresa the boost she needed for the battle she's fighting at home.

When Brooks started to sing "The Dance," Shaw wanted him to know what his music means to her.

"That's one of my favorite songs of his," she said. "I asked if I could go up farther to show him my sign."

As Brooks sang the song's lyrics--"I could have missed the pain, but I'd a had to miss the dance"--the camera caught her sign.

Seconds later, she was standing in front of the top-selling solo artist of all time, a 46-year-old mother of three who just finished her 13th round of chemo in her battle against breast cancer.

"When he gave me the guitar, I just started crying," she said. "It's been overwhelming."

Brooks then wanted his fans to know of her fight.

"You have all of my strength," he said. "You have everyone's strength in here, and you go kick cancer's ass!"

A day later, Teresa still can't believe what happened: The night the man whose words keep her strong stopped to pay attention to hers.
