Local Principals Zip Line To The Max At Mall Of America

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - Giving back is reaching new heights Thursday afternoon.

It's all for the yearly "Give to the Max Day," a chance to donate to your favorite organizations and charities.

Last year, more than 50,000 people donated $17 million in just 24 hours.

But this year, Give to the Max is on a whole new level.

Local principals are trading in their suits for costumes and getting suited up to zipline -- all for charity.

"Kids that are coming," said Hilltop Elementary Principal Sue Vallafskey, "have told me that I will be safe."

The principals wanted to do something a little extreme this year to drive home the point of giving to the max.

Leaders are at the Mall of America representing several schools, including Bruce Vento Elementary, Prairie Creek Community School and Battle Creek Middle School.

To make things even more interesting, the principals are dressed up as super heroes.

In just five years, "Give to the Max" has raised $100 million for non-profits and schools. This year, the event has already raised more than $8 million.

The staff at Paidea Academy Charter School voted on director Marci Levy-Maguire's costume.

She came to MOA dressed up as bat woman.

"We were told to be superheroes today," she said. "Sometimes I feel like educators feel like superheroes every day."

If you'd like to donate, you still have plenty of time and dozens of charities to choose from. To make a donation, to any cause, you can visit the Give to the Max Day website.
