St. Paul Superintendent Apologizes For Ferguson Tweet

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The superintendent of St. Paul Public Schools has apologized for a tweet she sent out after the grand jury's decision in Ferguson, Missouri.

After Monday night's decision not to indict officer Darren Wilson, Valeria Silva wrote: "No indictment for officer Wilson! Very sad day in America. How do I explain this to my black students?"

The remark offended many, including the president of the St. Paul Police Federation, who called the post ignorant and irresponsible.

Silva has since deleted the tweet and apologized. She said she reacted emotionally and didn't mean to challenge the judgment of the police or the grand jury.

The jury in Missouri had been meeting to decide the fate of Wilson, a white police officer, who fatally shot Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager, more than three months ago.
