Vikings' Brian Robison Chops Hair For Charity
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Vikings defensive end Brian Robison got his hair cut, for a good cause.
Robison showed off his newly shorn look before practice Wednesday, two days after getting a chop for charity. He donated his hair to Locks of Love, a nonprofit organization that provides wigs to children with long-term hair loss from any type of medical diagnosis.
"I think it's kind of pointless to just cut hair and let it go to waste," Robison said, adding: "I think it's a great cause to be able to give something back. Even that, as little as it is, to see a cancer patient that gets some sort of hair they can wear and put a smile on their face, speaks volumes."
Robison had been growing his hair out since the end of the 2009 season, usually wearing it in a ponytail. He said he worried about losing his strength. Now, he said, "there's nothing for blockers to grab onto."
Former Vikings teammate Fred Evans was the one who first told him about Locks of Love.
"I had no clue what it was, but I made a promise to him back then that if I ever cut it, I would do it. So I kept my promise," Robison said.
Fellow defensive end Everson Griffen was happy to hear about the charitable cause, but he was jolted enough by the strange look to jokingly suggest Robison was no longer worthy of his nickname.
"Don't call him B-Rob. Say Brian. Because without the pony tail he don't have no more swag," Griffen said. "No more B-Rob. It's Brian."
