MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Winona police say they are investigating after a robbery suspect shot a 22-year-old Lakeville man in the abdomen during a robbery Monday evening.

Shortly after 8 p.m., officers responded to the 550 block of 7th Street East in Winona on the report of a man who said he had been shot. Upon arrival, officers found the victim sitting near his car outside the residence.

The victim told police he was leaving a residence when a man stuck a pistol to his back and told him not to move. The man then reached into the victim’s pocket and took his wallet. The victim struggled with the suspect, however, and was then shot by what is believed to be a small-caliber pistol in the abdomen.

The suspect then fled on foot to the west. He’s described as wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt.

The victim was then treated at the Community Memorial Hospital. His condition is unknown.
